Research provides invaluable insight into user context, motivation and information requirements when engaging with a digital proposition. In this section, you will find examples of research outputs from various qualitative and quantitative studies that have helped me rationalise design recommendations, and help businesses make informed decisions.

1. Quantitative studies with large sample to validate taxonomy hypothesis.

As part of taxonomy validation, a lab-based card sorting exercise was followed by two rounds of quantitative surveys. Over 4000 responses were collected and a new product hierarchy was proposed.

2. Lab studies with 16 respondents comprising of 60 minute face to face interviews.

Preparations for this study included recruitment planning, respondent screening, agreeing stimulus (prototype) and key tasks to be evaluated, and creation of a discussion script.

  3. Lab study to evaluate a magazine style iPad app for global energy group.

To effectively test the user experience of this yet to be released iPad app the stimulus was hosted within invision app with hotspots defined.
